Step 2: Choose how to get there

Geneva, Chambéry and Lyon are the main airports, and the valley is also reached by train via Aime-La Plagne or Bourg-Saint-Maurice. Transfer times vary with traffic and season, so check your provider’s quoted time.

Fly + shared or private transfer

The usual choice. Shared transfers from Geneva start from about €47 per person; compare shared and private options for your dates.

Train

The nearest stations are Aime-La Plagne and Bourg-Saint-Maurice, with a bus up to the resort. Check seasonal direct services from Paris and London before relying on them.

Hire car

Handy for luggage and flexibility. Winter tyres or chains are required, and there are plenty of car parks in the resort.

Step 3: Lessons and the right slopes

Most ski schools take children from age 3, and Piou Piou clubs cover ages 3 to 4 with crèche facilities. Children over 5 need their own pass, skis, helmet and goggles; under-5s need only a hands-free lift card.
